In the words of Mahatma Gandhi “God speaks to us every day, only we don’t know how to listen.”
•
As spiritual beings having a human experience, we each have unique ways of receiving communication from the divine creator. This divine wisdom helps direct our journey through life. Intuition is a sacred gift that helps us tap into this divine wisdom. It can manifest as a gut feeling, a warning experienced as a tingle up the spine, a deep inner knowing, through dreams, from inner voices and so on.
•
In this piece, the wisdom of the universe is represented by a vast galaxy that funnels its way into the conscious mind of a woman. Her physical eyes closed in deep introspection to receive this wisdom, which awakens in her a different kind of sight. The type that perceives the universe as a ‘unified whole’ with an unyielding connection to its creator.

In one hand she holds onto an African mask, a totem of the ancestral voices that constantly whisper to her. The hands above her chest each symbolize a deep knowing and acceptance that this sacred gift will always guide her life path. A fourth hand poised in a gesture of benediction to bless others with the wisdom she receives.
•
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
I hope this piece inspires you to embrace and develop your unique intuitive gifts so that you may strengthen your personal connection to the divine.

The human hand is blessed with its own intelligence and familiarity with the subtleties of the body. This understanding can be used for many purposes. It can harm, hammer, and hoist.....but most importantly, it can heal.

This work forms part of a series, where I explore the belief systems of energy healers and the role of hands in this healing art.

One of the most prominent belief systems surrounding energy healing is that of ‘Reiki’. Reiki is a spiritual healing art with its roots in Japanese origin. It’s practitioners believe that the ‘Universal life force energy’ (the energy that animates all living things) can stagnate in the body where there has been some form of physical or emotional trauma. This stagnation can manifest as ‘dis-ease’ in a person.

Hence the job of a Reiki healer is to promote the free flow of life force energy through a person experiencing some type of blockage or create balance where there is an imbalance in energetic levels. They achieve this by placing their ‘hands’ on strategic energy channels along the body which allows the universal life force energy to flow where it needs to go and promote healing in a patient.

I’m fascinated by how this eastern spiritual practice holds similarity with the Christian belief system, where it was believed that Jesus performed healing through ‘laying of hands’. As the world understands that our health is in direct relationship with our mental, emotional, and physical energetic patterning, it is becoming more evident that we hold the power of healing ourselves and others in our own hands.
